Who attends Developing an Eye for Accuracy?

back to FAQs

The course is for people who spend a significant proportion of their time transferring and/or checking data. As a rule of thumb, we suggest that anyone who spends 25% or more of their time on such work would benefit.

Typical job roles of people who attend the training include:

  • Administrative roles
  • Customer Service roles
  • Banking support staff
  • Back office processing teams
  • Data Quality Managers
  • Insurance policy processing and underwriting teams
  • Credit controllers
  • Payroll teams

How long does the course last?

back to FAQs

The course takes seven hours to deliver. It is best delivered over two consecutive half days so that participants can practise their new skills back on the job immediately. We usually deliver the course on two consecutive mornings and the Train-the-Trainer programme (for the nominated trainers) in the afternoons.

Why is the course taught in the classroom and not at a computer?

back to FAQs

We use a trainer-led classroom approach because we are focusing on accuracy skills, not keyboard or typing skills. We need to focus on the visual and perceptual process that occurs when people read data. Using pen and paper exercises helps us to focus attention on the mental process rather than on typing skills, which are distinctly different. People learn how to avoid 'eye-po's' rather than typo's.

Doesn't greater accuracy mean slower speed?

back to FAQs

No. Developing an Eye for Accuracy leads to faster processing speed as well as greater accuracy. Participants learn and practise techniques to make them more confident with handling data. The exercises are timed to simulate everyday work pressures and deadlines. Participants usually show an improvement in productivity. Processing speed is measured at the beginning and end of the course and on average groups are 7% quicker by the end of the training. Speeds can increase up to 20% with practice.

How is the course evaluated?

back to FAQs

The course is evaluated at four levels:

Level 1: Participants' Feedback

Course delegates are asked to complete a feedback questionnaire ('Happy Sheet') and the results are tabulated and reviewed after each course.

Level 2: Learning Assessments

Course delegates are asked to complete a pre-course and post-course assessment. A results spreadsheet completed by the trainer calculates the group's average error rate before and after the training. It also calculates the group's reduction in errors and the increase in processing speed.

Level 3: Observable behavioural change

Managers of the participants are asked to report observed behavioural changes back in the workplace. We need your help with this bit. We need the managers of the people trained to report back on behavioural changes that have been observed e.g. "paying more attention to detail" "More aware of where errors occur".

Level 4: Return on investment

We liaise with you to review actual and anticipated return on investment. We can suggest ideas about how to calculate actual money saved through greater efficiency and fewer errors and we suggest you also calculate the percentage of salary saved from not having to pay people for time spent making, finding and correcting errors. We have evidence of return on investment from existing clients which we are able to share with you.

How are accuracy improvements maintained?

We train your team leaders and supervisors to coach the accuracy techniques back in the workplace. See Coaching for Accuracy.
